Amarendra Chakravorty is the author of a number of award winning books, some of which have been translated in all major Indian languages and also English, Mongolian, Japanese and Georgian. He has authored thirty-five books in the Bengali language, majority of which are for children. He has also compiled and edited ten travel books.
His writings cover a wide range – poems, short stories, travelogues and varied journalistic pieces.
He founded in 1980 'Karmakshetra', a weekly magazine for guidance to the educated unemployed and in the process he has helped young readers establish several small industries and businesses. It is accepted as the pioneer in its field and within a decade had been the widest selling Bengali magazine.

View the GalleryEarlier, in 1966, he edited 'Kabita-Parichaya', a journal on poetry criticism, which is still considered a milestone in modern Bengali literary criticism.
In his school days he founded a quarterly magazine for children. Later he published the children’s weekly 'Chhelebela'. He re-launched 'Chhelebela' as a monthly magazine in 2012. Within a very short time since its re-launch, the magazine has gained enormous popularity amongst young readers.
Launching the monthly travel magazine 'Bhraman' in 1993, Amarendra Chakravorty as editor broke new ground in Bengali literature. The magazine presents interesting features, embellished with spectacular photographs, on places and people of India and abroad, highlighting the historical and geographical backgrounds.
In 2012, Amarendra Chakravorty floated 'Kaler Kashtipathar' – a monthly Bengali literary-cultural magazine, which in true sense has brought back to the Bengali readers, the long lost flavour of pure literary journal.
An Honours Graduate from Calcutta University, he undertook study tours on Newspaper production technology and evolution of edit mix in the various newspaper establishments in Europe in 1987, 1988 and 1990.
While travelling extensively in India and abroad, he made several travel films for television on various exotic places like Antarctica, Africa, Alaska, Egypt, Mongolia, China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, etc.
As an Executive Member of World Association of newspaper — later World Editors’ Forum, he participated in the World Congress of Newspapers and World Editors’ Forum in various countries of Europe and Asia in 1987, 1988, 1990, 2004, 2008, 2010.
He also participated in the World Congress of Poets in Australia(2001), Romania(2002), Taiwan(2003), Mongolia(2006) and Mexico(2008).
In 2005 he participated in the Asian & Pan-Pacific Poets Conference in Japan.
In 2002 World Academy of Arts & Culture, USA conferred to him Honorary Degree of Doctor of Literature.
In 1983 he founded Swarnakshar Prakasani Private Limited, a publishing house involved in both print and electronic media. He is the Chief Editor, Publisher & Director of the company.
